CHENTE BARRERA is one of the most versatile artists of Tejano music today. With more than 300 projects recording drums, keyboards, and background vocals with almost every major Tejano artist, Chente is indeed in a league of his own. Growing up to the sounds of Little Joe, George Strait, Flaco Jimenez, and Roberto Pulido has helped Chente develop his own style as a drummer, singer, and songwriter. He started his career as a drummer, playing and recording with the likes of Mazz, Jay Perez, La Tropa F, and Bobby Pulido. He then later started recording background vocals for groups like Intocable, Jennifer Peña, and David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. By 1998, Chente ventured on a solo career as a lead vocalist, now fronting his own band, Taconazo, with a blend of Tex-Mex and Down Home Tejano. Since then, Chente has won numerous awards including various Tejano Music Awards, The Tejano Roots Hall Of Fame in 2005, and a GRAMMY win in 2007, for Best Tejano Performance, for the CD Sigue El Taconazo. Chente is now on tour behind his latest CD, Un Nuevo Amor, which is already topping the charts throughout the Tejano industry. Chente is living proof that Tejano music is alive and strong.
